Tyrod Taylor is undergoing surgery.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that Taylor is having surgery to fix a core muscle issue, per a source informed of the situation. The recovery period is estimated for six weeks.

The Bills later confirmed in a statement that Taylor had elected to have surgery: “Bills QB Tyrod Taylor had a consultation visit yesterday with Dr. William Meyers and elected to have surgery this morning. The Bills were informed late yesterday of this morning’s procedure.”

Taylor sent out Snapchat photos of himself before surgery.

The Bills appear ready to move on from Taylor, but the surgery could affect his contract situation. Buffalo’s brass has a decision to make on the quarterback’s contract prior to March 11. However, if Taylor can’t pass a physical by that date, $27.5 million reportedly becomes guaranteed.

If Taylor meets the estimated six-week recovery timetable, he should be healthy enough to pass a physical by March.

Taylor believes he’s done enough to keep the starting gig in Buffalo, but others — including Bills legend Jim Kelly — disagree.

We’ve just entered the beginning stages of this winding situation. Thursday’s surgery threw a twist into the offseason plot.
